my son has a fake praying mantis in his room. I've heard that real ones make nice pets but I couldn't see keeping a wild thing like that cooped up for too long. One of my cats had a fight with one that found his way into the house once. They apparently fluff up their tails to make themselves look bigger.

That is a big bug. They eat there own weight in bugs almost everyday and that critter was around 6.1/2" long. Imaging how many aphids, cucumber beetles, and tomato bugs that you don't have to spray for. This would explain why bugs were almost absent this year in my garden.
