There's some backstory to this one...LOL
DaHubby noticed while driving home from a few weeks ago a house which occasionally has things set out front marked "free"! Last Friday, he IM'd me from work and said that there were a box of clothes out this morning and would I like for him to pick them up on the way home that night?! LOL
Now, a year ago, in our pre-Dave Ramsey life, I would have never thought to pick up something like this but thanks to Dave, our new-found frugalness, and my budding crafty talents, I said "sure!"
In the box was an assortment of men's and women's tops in a variety of sizes, dressy as well as some ready for the rag bin. I was thrilled to find a couple with tags still on them which I will be putting on Ebay. And, a few t-shirts that will immediately go into DaHubby's rotation.
However, there were a ton of additional t-shirts...and I don't need THAT many rags! LOL So off to the internet for ideas! And, after following this link, I took these three of Flicka's old/too small/stained t-shirts plus three of the FREE adult old/stained t-shirts which with about an hour at the sewing machine went from this:
to THIS:
and I think Her Highness is pleased.
And, for my next trick, I have a couple t-shirts remaining that appear to nearly new but aren't something any of us would wear so I will be making them into THIS!
And, Pojke will also benefit when I take another three and (hopefully) make them into THIS (if I can have someone give this rookie sewer a lesson in adding elastic!) LOL

that is a great idea!! I'm glad I didn't throw out our old t-shirts yet! What great play clothes! Thanks for sharing your ideas!
i knew about the bags, martha steward did some on her show a few months bac, but i LOVE the dresses! too cute!
What an awesome idea! I need to learn how to do that!
I took the kids old sports shirts or shirts that have some meaning into a T-shirt quilt. I still have mine from old high school cheer shirts and love getting it out to show my kids.
What a great idea...and a great curbside find! Free stuff is great anyway, but especially when you can put it to good use!
I'm impressed with your sewing abilities. I just bought a sewing machine, but the most I've done is take it out of the box!
Wow. That is awesome and so clever. You did a great job.
Hope you check out mine The Pond
That is too cute - very impressive! Way to go!!
You should totally try the pants. I have made some (not out of a t-shirt, but out of my hubby's old pj pants) and they are really fun and easy.
SO glad I found this! What an awesome idea!
Hey Beth! Elastic is easy to put in - you just fold the top over a little wider than your elastic and sew it down, like a hem, only keep a section open at the back, attach a safety pin to the end of the elastic and run it through the 'tunnel' you made at the waistband, when you go all around the waistband, remove safety pin and sew it closed and voila! that's it. In pants you want at least 1/2 - 1 inch elastic so it doesn't roll up on them. Measure the elastic by holding it around the waist of the child and pull it a little snug, then cut.
I used to make all my kids' play clothes and pj's when they were smaller. Peopl would just give me material and I used it. I admit though, they had some 'wild and crazy' outfits!! But to play in, or sleep in, who cares right?
What a great idea, so clever! It looks great, and she looks like she likes it :)
